Favorite Lupin Moment:
Remus Lupin is hands down the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Harry and his classmates ever had. The boggart scene really solidified it for me. Not only did Lupin teach theory, but he was all about hands-on learning, which seems to be the best way to practice magic. That day he not only taught the kids how to successfully handle a boggart, he gave Neville a chance. Neville up until this point was pretty much labeled as the mistake wizard, the screw up that couldn't get anything right lesson-wise. He was always forgetting things and forever making mistakes, but Lupin couldn't care less. He chose Neville to help him and Neville succeeded spectacularly. I mean Snape in his grandmother's clothes. What a beautiful hilarious moment! Lupin helped Neville see that he wasn't a screw-up. He had the ability to do exactly what his classmates could do. And this is just one of the moments that made me love Lupin!
Such a great scene you picked =D and you said it perfectly! I love this scene for the exact reason you stated. Lupin showed so much kindness to Neville and allowed him to show tot he world that he isn't a huge screw-up, he can successfully do magic. I just loved it because it was probably the first time a teacher showed Neville that much kindness and reached out to Neville =D. It just made me love Lupin so much than I already did and it was also extremely funny :D
ReplyDeleteYES!^^ Even his own family thought he was a squib for a while, so Neville didn't have much of a support system from home. God bless Neville! And thank you Professor Lupin for being the voice of reason again and again!
DeleteI'm with you: pretty much ALL of the Lupin moments are THE best moments ever! I love his character to pieces^^ But yes, I agree, hands down the Boggart class is one of his best moments of all :D Such a fun moment and such a useful one too ♥ And of course, I love how he helps poor Neville with his confidence throughout the year. He probably had such a big impact on the kid :*)
ReplyDeleteI think this scene was as important to everyone who witnessed it as it was for Neville. I'm pretty sure lots of his classmates had written Neville off as incompetent by this time, or at the very least incapable. This moment showed everyone including himself that Neville is capable. It's beautiful and it was made possible by Lupin!
DeleteAn excellent, beloved and hilarious moment! J.K. Rowling knows how to set a memorable scene. Looking back we can appreciate that mischievous streak - the reminder of the Marauders - that lives on in Lupin despite everything that he had to go through.
ReplyDeleteI love that Lupin was a great professor but he also was incredibly mischievous. Add in his patience and he becomes a master of humor.
DeleteThis is definitely a popular Lupin moment, I went with exactly the same one this week! No one ever really gives Neville a chance, and Lupin's patience pays off - Neville performs the spell perfectly! Lupin is awesome though, you're right, all his moments are great!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was incredibly popular, which I love! Lupin's patience is one of his best qualities I think.
DeleteAbsolutely! Even McGonagall (though I adore her), treats Neville like the screw up kid that can't get anything right. I love that Lupin is the one that talks him through it so well and gives us the hilarious moment of Snape in his grandmother's clothes. Excellent pick :D
ReplyDeleteMcGonagall's style of teaching involves a lot of tough love, which she uses quite frequently on Neville. It's purpose wasn't to break Neville down like Snape, but to build him up by holding him accountable. Lupin's tactic gave Neville the opportunity to realize that he could do everything his friends could do, which he really needed.
DeleteThe boggart lesson is just so classic! It's a triumph for Neville, and whenever I watch the PoA movie, this scene never fails to make me laugh. :D
ReplyDeleteI love it! I laugh just thinking about Snape in Neville's grandmother's clothes. :D
