2022 Reading Challenges

 I'm bringing it back baby! Long time no write, no see, and even no read. Oops. There's been a lot going on and a couple year hiatus was to be expect right? *cough*pandemic*cough*

I've always loved a good reading challenge and this year is no different, but there are way less of them. I'm focusing on backlist reading and having fun! Without further ado: 

2022 TBR Pile Challenge

Let's start with a challenge that I've never been successful with but would like to try again. Rules: pick 12 books from my TBR pile and a couple alternates just in case I DNF any of the original list. They must be published before before 1/1/2021 and have been on my TBR pile for at least a year. I definitely have plenty of these so let's give it a go! Here's the list:

AND there was a Marvel themed read-a-thon several years ago, hosted by Jamishelves. I really enjoyed participating in it but I wasn't able to get through all the prompts and all the phrases. So this year I thought it would be really fun to work my way through the prompts in order and possibly watch the corresponding movies. I'm going to take my time with this. And I'll probably make the prompts it's own post but I'm going to enjoy it. And depending on how far I get, I might add my own prompts for movies and shows that have come out since! (a readable version of this graphic and the prompts are linked.)

My Disney Read-a-thon

Welcome to my brainchild, I have created a monster! It's beautiful Disney/book mash-up and I'm fully in love with the idea. I spent the better part of my free time this past week working on this new project. I took all the full-length animated theatrical releases Disney has to offer and separated them into different reading tracks. The main one is a list of the main Disney movies not including Pixar.

In an effort to keep the main list smaller (lol), I created side tracks that come under the Disney umbrella ranging from Pixar and TV spin-offs to specific series with multiple movies. Each of these movies on the lists were then assigned a reading prompt. Guys, there are so many movies, it was sometimes a bit difficult to come up with a prompt that fit the movie well. I've done my best and I'm really quite proud of what I've produced.

So here's the idea: This will be my long standing challenge, I will choose 1-3 movies each month at random. I will read a book that corresponds to the prompts and then I will watch the movies. It's fun because I'm challenging myself reading-wise and I get to watch Disney movies in the process! There are some movies on this list I haven't seen in a very long time and I'm just as excited to revisit them as I am to read all these books.

I will (hopefully) be posting a monthly TBRs with the chosen prompts/movies and then do a monthly recap on both movies and books. I think this will be a fun way to go through this project. It's an as-long-as-it-takes Disney read-a-thon!

Marvel-A-Thon!!!

The Marvel-A-Thon is a reading challenge I was made to undertake! With my love of the Marvel universe, it's sure to be a fun and entertaining time. This is a month long read-a-thon hosted by Jamieson of Jamishelves. If you want to participate too, check out the announcement page for all the rules! 

There are so many prompt and books to read (21!) and I most definitely won't get to all of them even with my allotted skips. Even so, I've found a book to match most of the prompts. 2018 Challenges and Goals

I'm a little late in the game this year, but I've come up with some reading challenges and goals for 2018.

I've set this year's Goodreads goal to 25 books. I'm pretty sure that I'll read more than that, but I wanted to start with a realistic goal. I've also gone through the books I own to free up some space on my shelves. It wasn't the most pleasant task, but my shelves look great and now I don't feel as overwhelmed by them.

My physical TBR has gotten a little bit out of hand in recent years, so I went through and created a stack of books that I either have to read or get rid of at the end of 2018. (or both) To keep me accountable, I'm putting that list here:

So it's just over halfway through #TheReadingQuest and I've had a lot of fun reading the books I've picked out. And I'm doing pretty well if I do say so myself. I have finished 2 books, 1 graphic novel, and 1 audiobook. That's quite a lot for someone who reads slowly!

Lauren at Wonderless Reviews created an amazing spreadsheet to help calculate the experience and health points, which is wonderful because I didn't want to compute the numbers. (cuz I'm lazy. >.<) And now I don't have to. Thanks!

The Chronological Sherlock Holmes Challenge

I love Sherlock Holmes. I've devoured just about every media outlet for the detective: movies, tv shows, and novel retellings.  Unfortunately, I haven't actually read all of the original Sherlock Holmes stories. I've read a fair amount of them but not as many as I'd like. This is my attempt to be more intentional about reading all of Doyle's works.

Marian at Noonlight Reads/Classic Lit has created a chronological reading challenge that will span 16 months starting this month (January 2017). She plans to read a short story a week, and a novel every three weeks. While her schedule seems like a great idea, I know that I won't be able to keep that schedule and also read other things this year, it's just not going to happen. So I'm going to take it a little slower. Some months I hope to stick to the original schedule, but it'll probably take me two full years to finish.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

Last year, I participated in five different challenges that pushed me to read more, which I thought was always a good thing. However, my reading habits crossed the dangerous line and it began to feel like a chore.  There were so many books I had to read that qualified for each challenge.  The pressure was so much that I stopped enjoying reading for a while and started to read slower. This affected my weekly book review, which hasn't really been weekly as of late. Because of all of this, I did not complete two of the challenges that I signed up for this year. And it bothers me.

So for those reasons, I'm making some changes for 2014.

First, I've decided to only do two challenges this year: one that I've done every year since the beginning of this bog and one that will further the conquest of that giant book list I took on as a sophomore in high school.

Also, the weekly book reviews will be no more, I will read at my own pace and enjoy my reading and review the books once I've finished them.  I love this blog but I also want to love my reading time.  I will still be posting regularly, only the content will be slightly different, depending on the week.

Thanks for bearing with me through these changes.  They'll help me and hopefully make this blog better too.

Fifth:

Hey!  I know this is a little late in the year, but I think it's time to join a couple book Challenges!

The first challenge I've decided to join is the YA Contemporary Challenge, hosted by Katie's Book Blog and Reading Angel.

The next challenge I've decided to join is The 2012 Book Blogger Recommendation Challenge, hosted by Reading with Tequila.

RULES: Participants can read any books from the list of books recommended by bloggers in 2011.  You can decide to read books only from the top 25 or from the entire recommendation list.  Rereads do not count towards your total books.  (All formats acceptable: audiobooks, e-book, etc.)

This book challenge is called The Eclectic Reader 2012 Challenge, hosted by Book'd Out.



RULES:
