Notable Quotable: Nina George (#161)

"Books are more than doctors, of course. Some novels are loving, lifelong companions; some give you a clip around the ear; others are friends who wrap you in war, towels when you've got those autumn blues. And some...well, some are pink candy floss that tingles in your brain for three seconds and leaves a blissful voice. Like a short, torrid love affair."

Harry Potter Moment of the Week #107

Would you have joined the Slug Club?

This is an interesting topic. My initial thought is why not. There's part of me that has no interest in being used the way Slughorn tends to use his students. I do not like the idea of being collected, as Dumbledore once so bluntly put it. However, I also know that life is all about the connections you have. So if Slughorn wants me in his club, than why not use that to my advantage. Plus, I think I would enjoy some of the other people in the club, well if it's people like Harry, Hermione, and Ginny.

Notable Quotable: Sarah J. Maas (#160)

"'I like music,' she said slowly, 'because when I hear it, I...I lose myself within myself, if that makes any sense. I become empty and full all at once, and I can feel the whole earth roiling around me. When I play. I'm not...for once, I'm not destroying, I'm creating.'"

Harry Potter Moment of the Week #106

hosted by Uncorked Thoughts and Lunar Rainbows Reviews.

Favorite Hogwarts Founder. Or whichever one fascinates you the most.

It may be because I'm a Hufflepuff, but Helga Hufflepuff has always been someone I had great appreciation for as founder. The other founders had very specific characteristics and traits they wanted for their houses and that kind of exclusivity always seemed a bit weird to me. I loved that Hufflepuff didn't subscribe to that mentality. She valued kindness and loyalty in her students, but she didn't discriminate who belonged in her house.
Said Slytherin, "We'll teach just those
Whose ancestry's purest."
Said Ravenclaw, "We'll teach those whose
Intelligence is surest."
Said Gryffindor, "We'll teach all those
With brave deeds to their name."
Said Hufflepuff, "I'll teach the lot
And treat them just the same."
--Sorting Hat's Song, Order of the Pheonix
On a side note, Salazar Slytherin is also interesting to me. Even with all the talk about evil witches and wizards coming out of Slytherin, there clearly must have been something about him that drew the other founders to him. I'd be curious to see them all interact with each other.

#TheReadingQuest TBR

It's time to go on an adventure... book style.

I came across #TheReadingQuest last week and I have fallen in love with the idea of it! It's like a video game or RPG. You get to choose a character and read books according to their quest, plus there are side quests too. You earn experience points for the books you read, bonus if they are written by marginalized authors. Aentee at Read at Midnight created this quest, go check out her sign up page for all the details.

#TheReadingQuest runs from August 13 - September 10. It's a four week reading challenge! It'll be some much more doable than a weekly read-a-thon. I'll probably do some update posts during challenge as well.

I'm not going to lie, it was difficult picking a character path, however, I've decided to take on Mage's quest.  And if I finish that path I'm going to move onto either the Knight or the Bard.  I'm not going to make that decision until I come to it.

MAGE: As wielders of  spells and witchcraft, these players will conjure and summon their way through the first down path on the quest. Their tomes contain magic and whispers of alternate lands.

I will be starting at the bottom left side of the bingo card and make my way through the challenges. I'm not sure if I'll do them in order, but I will definitely finish all five before moving on to the next character path. I will be completing side challenges as I go along; there are a couple of them that I definitely won't do but the rest are up for grabs.

Here's my tentative TBR for the Mage as well as the Knight and Bard. BUT I obviously reserve the right to change books at my leisure (because let's face it, I love making TBRs and I love breaking them too!)

Harry Potter Moment of the Week #105

hosted by Uncorked Thoughts and Lunar Rainbows Reviews.

If you could change one thing from book 6, what would it be?

There are probably other things that will come to mind later, but the one thing that keeps popping up is Lavender Brown.  I can't stand her relationship with Ron. I know it's played up in the movie, but I still really dislike how obsessive and ridiculous she seems in the book. I realize that their relationship pushes Ron and Hermione closer in the end, but uggg it's hard to read.

Lavender Brown deserves to be more than a plot device to further Hermione and Ron's relationship, even if I do think she is a pain in the butt.

But again, Uuuuuuuuugggggggggg!
