Long time no write, no see, and even no read. Oops. There's been a lot going on and a couple year hiatus was to be expect right? *cough*pandemic*cough*

I've always loved a good reading challenge and this year is no different, but there are way less of them. I'm focusing on backlist reading and having fun! Without further ado:

2022 TBR Pile Challenge

hosted by RoofBeamReader

Let's start with a challenge that I've never been successful with but would like to try again. Rules: pick 12 books from my TBR pile and a couple alternates just in case I DNF any of the original list. They must be published before before 1/1/2021 and have been on my TBR pile for at least a year. I definitely have plenty of these so let's give it a go! Here's the list:

1. I really enjoyed participating in it but I wasn't able to get through all the prompts and all the phrases. So this year I thought it would be really fun to work my way through the prompts in order and possibly watch the corresponding movies. I'm going to take my time with this. And I'll probably make the prompts it's own post but I'm going to enjoy it. And depending on how far I get, I might add my own prompts for movies and shows that have come out since! (a readable version of this graphic and the prompts are linked.)

Happy reading all!
Alex Brennanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18409584614712337859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-608375057255171876.post-65560131306576235802020-05-04T01:00:00.000-04:002020-05-04T01:00:05.099-04:00O.W.L.s Results Are In!And that's a wrap! April went by so so quickly and I honestly did incredibly well. I read almost eight books in the month, which is tripled my read books for the year. It did help that I was quarantined for two weeks.

Let's go over the books and O.W.L.s I took!

Charms: Lumos Maxima - white cover

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater - I finished this series this month! It was such a strange and wonderful experience; I'm really glad I got to this book and this series. And it has a fair amount of white on the cover, so it definitely counts.

Herbology: Mimbulus Mimbletonia - title starts with M

My Unscripted Life by Lauren Morrill - This is such a cute contemporary and a really quick read. I flew through it, just like the other Lauren Morrill books I've read. I checked off Herbology with this one.

Transfiguration: Animagus Lecture - book/series that includes shapeshifting

The Trials of Apollo: The Tyrant's Tomb by Rick Riordan - I totally forgot that Frank was a shapeshifter so this was a happy coincidence! I'd been waiting for this audiobook for months and it just became available this month.

Arthimancy: Magical Qualities of #2 - read something outside your favorite genre

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell - I definitely like mystery/suspense/thriller but I wouldn't call it my favorite genre. I gravitate more toward fantasy and sci-fi. This book was so suspenseful and weird, I just had to keep reading to find out what happened.

Potions: Shrinking Soluntion - book less than 150 pages
Runaways Vol. 3: That was Yesterday by Rainbow Rowell - I adore Runaways, and I have from the very beginning. I really like the story that's being told with some of my favorite characters.

Astronomy: Night Class - read majority of this book when it's dark outside

Runaways Vol. 4: But You Can't Hide by Rainbow Rowell - More Runaways, there can never be enough. I read this volume in one night before bed and it was definitely dark out.

Care of Magical Creatures: Hippogriffs - creature with a beak on the cover
Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend - My copy didn't have a beak on it, but there is an edition that has a crow on the cover so I'm counting it! This story is so whimsical and creative. I had a smile on my face almost the entire time I was reading it.

Defense Against the Dark Arts: Grindylows - book set at the sea/coast
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo - Okay so technically it shouldn't count because I finished it on May 2, but I'm counting it because I was so close and I can! I had to guess that the sea would be a part of this, partially because of the serpent on the cover and partially because of the title. And we spent about 50-100 pages on a ship, so I'm glad my guess paid off.
It looks like my dream of becoming an Auror is still in the cards! We'll have to wait until August to see if I can hack it during the N.E.W.T.s. And if that doesn't work out, I certainly completed enough O.W.L.s to find a new career calling. Until then, I'm extremely proud of how many books I read! Hope you all had a great reading month too!

It's a two part readathon, the O.W.L.'s take place in April and the N.E.W.T.'s usually happen some time in the summer.

She has so many resources and links to the prompts and career opportunities. Here's her 2020 O.W.L.s announcement video for all the prompts and information. She has paid so much attention to the details and I absolutely love it! She created a career Guidebook and it's seriously amazing. Go check it out!

I have chosen the career path to become an Auror: I don't know that I'd be suited to this job in real life, but I've always wanted to be one! I'm taking the opportunity for the potential to become one. There are five classes, which means I'll be attempting to read five books. I am really hoping to complete all the classes so I can move forward in the N.E.W.T.'s in August. Here are the classes and books I plan to read:

Charms: Lumos Maxima - a book with a white cover
American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins - I'm not really sure what this is about but Taylor and Kathryn gave this to me for my birthday and she's been raving about it, so I really want to read it! I'm grateful that it's got white on the cover and I can fit it into one of these prompts.

Defense Against the Dark Arts: Grindylows - a book set at sea/coast
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo - Okay so I'm not entirely sure if the True Sea and the Fold count as coastal, but I'm going with it because I really want to continue this series!

Herbology: Mimbulus Mimbletonia - a book that starts with M
My Unscripted Life by Lauren Morrill - This feels like it'll be a wonderful lighthearted contemporary and it's perfect for a challenge this big.

Potions: Shrinking Solution - a book under 150 pages
Paper Girls Vol. 4 by Brian K. Vaughan - It's time to pick this series back up; there's only two volumes left so I'm going to go with this one for the prompt.

Transfiguration: Animagus Lecture - a book/series that includes shapeshifting
Runaways Vol. 3: That Was Yesterday by Rainbow Rowell - Okay hear me out: in the original series, there was a shapeshifter character named Xavin. I have no idea of she will show up in this run of Runaways or even in this volume, but I'm still going to count it!
This isn't part of the requirements for Auror but, I really like random number generator prompts, so I'm adding Divination to my list of O.W.L.s.

Divination: Third Eye - random number generator
The Anomaly by Michael Rutger - I've this described as Indiana Jones meets X-files and I've never wanted to read something more.
Also, somewhere this month I have to read The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell for book club and I'm super excited to read it, so maybe I'll try and swap it out for one of the courses, but I don't think it fits any of them, so this will just be extra!

Good Morning!

Today, I have my February TBR to share with you. I was pretty successful with my January TBR, so I'm excited to continue with my book journey in 2020.

The Disney-a-Thon Pick:
Pocahontas - Read a book featuring Native/Indigenous people
Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse- This is a carry over book from January. I started reading it at the end of the month and so far I am really enjoying it. I can't wait to see what happens to the main characters!

Recess: School's Out - Read a Middle Grade book
The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart - This seems like the most Recess book I own. A secret society is absolutely something those kids would create with their imagination in this movie/show. I love the idea of a this story, but I don't know much because it seems like the kind of book where it's more fun to go into it blind.
OR
Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver - A good ghost story full of magic and mistakes sounds like good fun. I've been meaning to read this for years so this might be the perfect opportunity!

Series Picks:
The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater- I'm ready to finish this series! I'm so invested with all these characters, I just need to know how it ends. This book is definitely high priority this month.

Book Club Pick:
The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi - It's been spoken and we voted to read this book this month. We've previously read a book by Roshani Chokshi and really enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to this one. Bonus: it's a retelling of Hades and Persephone so it'll count toward my retelling bingo card!
It's January TBR time!

Here's the thing about me, I love making lists and monthly TBRs but I am terrible at sticking to them. Right now, I'm reading at a rate where TBR don't really make sense; about two books per month tops recently and one of them is my book club book. BUT I'm still going to make a TBR! (I'm sure you didn't see that one coming.)

I've got a reasonable list, probably about one book per challenge I'm participating. I am giving myself grace to not finish books and change them based on my mood and if I feel like I'm falling into a slump. I want to increase my reading and I'm going to listen to myself and not force books that aren't interesting to me anymore.

Anyway, so I've got some guidelines for myself and I'm ready to share with you my picks for January!

The Disney-a-Thon Pick:
Pocahontas - Read a book featuring Native/Indigenous people
Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse- While I was researching my retelling challenge for this year, I came across this book and it's coming out this month. It's a story inspired by Navajo lore, featuring a set of siblings with Navajo heritage. It sounds incredibly interesting and I'm also looking forward to rewatching Pocahontas! (Bonus it also counts toward the retelling challenge!)
Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater- I read the first two books of this series at the end of 2019 and I really liked them. I'm definitely going to continue and finish it in the first quarter of 2020. And that starts with this book! I'm really intrigued as to where the story of Blue and the boys is going so here I am hoping to read this book this month!

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo - This is another series that I started in 2019 and I'd really like to finish in 2020. I love Leigh Bardugo's writing and I'm excited to see where this story goes in the sequel!
Book Club Pick:
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - This is a reread for me; I've read it in the last couple years for the first time and really enjoyed it. We decided to read the book and then go see the new adaptation of it with Emma Watson and company.

And a brand new decade deserves a new set of challenges. So today I'm going to share with you the challenges I've chosen to participate in and some of the books I hope to read in 2020.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2020 Finishing the Series Reading Challenge hosted by Celebrity Readers.

I've been doing this challenge for a couple years now and I really enjoy it. It gives me an excuse and a great reminder to continue those series I've started but haven't finished.

Last year, I attempted and did not come close to finishing the B-lister level, which is finishing 5-8 series. I'm going to take it a little bit easier this year, so I'm choosing the C-lister level which is finishing 1-4 series. And if I complete this level early on in the year, I may upgrade to the B-lister level. We shall see.

I've got a list of potential book series candidates for this challenge. Obviously, there's more than four here so I'll be playing it by ear which series I read in 2020.

C-List Finisher (1-4 series)

1. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Steifvater (4 books total) - 4/10/20
2. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo (3 books total)
3. Renegades by Marissa Meyer (3 books total)
4. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake (4 books total)
5. Illuminae Chronicles by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (3 books total)
6. Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin (2 books total)
7. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas (8 books total)
8. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein (2 books total)

2020 Retellings Reading Challenge hosted by Cornerfolds.

I love a good retelling, I'm a sucker for them. So when I found this challenge, I knew I wanted to participate!

There are levels and a bingo board with prompts so it's a bit of a two fold challenge and I am up for it! There's a giveaway aspect to this challenge that I may or may not participate in but I'll play that by ear.

The goal is a bingo (or a black out) on the board with the level you have chosen. I am attempting to the Silent Assassin level, which is reading 1-5 retellings. Hopefully, my five books will work with five prompts to get my bingo. And again, if I finish that goal early in the year, I may upgrade to another level.

Hades & Persephone - The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
Own Voices - Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse
Free Space - The Trails of Apollo: The Tryant's Tomb by Rick Riordan

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disney Read-a-thon Challenge hosted by ME!

This is a reading challenge that I created for myself mid last year. I combined my love for reading with my love for Disney. Essentially, a created a reading prompt for every animated theatrical release since the beginning of Disney. Here's the original post that has all the prompts!

Every month I'll randomly select a movie and read a book that follows the prompt and then watch the accompanying movie. The original post with all the prompts and explanation is linked above. I'll keep this area updated with what I watch and read this year; I may have multiple picks per month but I'm playing that by ear. Please feel free to join me on this adventure!

It's the beginning of August which means it's time to choose books and movies!

I think this is the first time the movie prompts fit perfectly with books I already wanted to read this month. So I'm extremely excited to be reading everything these!

The Picks:
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - Read your favorite book growing up
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling - I'll be reading the illustrated edition, which I haven't actually read before. I love this story so so much, and it definitely has it's place near the top of my favorite books growing up. There's a lot of emotion associated with this series for me, so I'm excited to take the time this year to reread this gem again.

A Goofy Movie - Read a book featuring a parent/child relationship
Bridge of Clay by Markus Zuzak - This book I believe is all about a family and their estranged relationship with their father. I don't know too much about it, but I think I can pretty safely guess that a parent/child relationship will be featured at least a little bit. I'm really hoping this book is excellent.

Book Club:
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens - This was almost unanimously picked for our book this month. I've been hearing lots of good things about this book and so I can't wait to read it. I'll probably end up listening to it and I'm hoping it'll have a good narrator.

I did pretty well, especially since I had a lot of things going on in my life that week. Let's get right to it:

I managed to read 4 books, just over 800 pages:

Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman
Runaways Vol 2: Best Friends Forever by Rainbow Rowell
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
Hawkeye: Kate Bishop Vol. 2: Masks by Kelly Thompson

With these books, I was able to complete all the challenges!

Read a book with purple on the cover:
Runaways Vol. 2: Best Friends Forever by Rainbow Rowell
Hawkeye: Kate Bishop Vol. 2: Masks by Kelly Thompson
Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman

Three of the four of my books have purple on the cover, and I didn't even try to plan that!

Read a book in the same spot the entire time:
Hawkeye: Kate Bishop Vol. 2: Masks by Kelly Thompson
Runaways Vol. 2: Best Friends Forever by Rainbow Rowell

I read both of these in the same spot, but I read Runaways first so I counted that one for this challenge.

Read a book you meant to read last year:
Hawkeye: Kate Bishop Vol. 2: Masks by Kelly Thompson
Runaways Vol. 2: Best Friends Forever by Rainbow Rowell

I'm forever buying trades and then not reading them in a timely manner, so these worked perfectly for this challenge.

Read an author's first book:
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

I started but didn't finish Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, but luck for me Good Omens is technically Neil Gaiman's first book!

Read a book with a non-human main character:
Runaways: Best Friends Forever by Rainbow Rowell

There's a whole slew of non-human main characters in this series: a robot head, a dinosaur, and an alien just to name a few!

Pick a book that has five or more words in the title:
Hawkeye: Kate Bishop Vol. 2: Masks by Kelly Thompson
Runaways Vol. 2: Best Friends Forever by Rainbow Rowell

The trades are coming in really handy this year, what with all the words in their titles and all.

Read and watch a book to movie adaptation:

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

Technically I didn't complete this challenge because I didn't manage to watch the adaptation but I read the book and that was fun.

That's it! I collected 10 badges on The Reading Rush website and enjoyed putting more time and effort into my everyday reading! I think I should participate in more regularly in read-a-thons. So which one will it be next?!

Time for the Recap!

The Picks:
As a review, here are my pick for June and July
Home on the Range - Read a book that takes place on a ranch or features a cowboy
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure - Read a book featuring a nature word in the title
Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet - Read a book that features the Internet/technology
Finding Nemo - Read a book nominated for an award

I was able to complete three of the four prompts these last two months. I'll put Finding Nemo back in the pool for another time. Here are my short reviews for the books I read and their corresponding movies.

The Books:
When the Sky Fell on Splendor by Emily Henry - I really enjoyed this book. It definitely has a Stranger Things vibe to the story, and I really liked that aspect. This group of friends thrown together after an accident that affected most of the families in the small town. I loved the dynamic between characters, especially between Franny and her brother, Arthur.

Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy - I wanted to like this book so much. It had all the makings of something that I'd love and unfortunately I just couldn't get into the book. I counted this book as my Home on the Range because they ride horses at some point during this story (I know it's a stretch but it's my challenge, so.) I ended up putting this book down, but maybe I'll come back to it later.

Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman - This book was so much fun! I really enjoyed the book scavenger game aspect of this story. It was a story of friendship and puzzles, family and adventure. There's a little bit of mystery and suspense which glued me to the book. I wanted to know what would come next, which clues our main characters would solve and where it would take them. Middle School is rough, but it's always nice to have a friend to share the experience with and these two main characters do just that.

The Movies:
Tinker Bell - Even though I pulled Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, I watched Tinker Bell so I could watch them in release order. This was a very cute movie about embracing who you are and what you're made to do. I really enjoyed watching Tink's origin story and I can't wait to pull other Tinker Bell movies.

Home on the Range - This is one of the few movies on the list that I haven't seen before. It's not your typical Disney musical; there were no singing animals, which did disappoint me a little. Three cows go on an adventure to help save their Little Patch of Heaven, fighting against all odds. It's not my favorite movie, and I'm not surprised this isn't one of the more popular Disney movies, but it was fun.

Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet - This movie is a gem. I love the musical number that Vanellope sings while she's in Slaughter Race. My favorite part of this whole movie is the princesses. I would absolutely watch a feature length film with all of them interacting like they do in this movie!
August's picks are coming shortly. So until next time, happy reading!Alex Brennanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18409584614712337859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-608375057255171876.post-64927297539609392492019-07-21T19:18:00.000-04:002019-07-21T19:18:23.224-04:00The Reading Rush 2019I'm a sucker for a good read-a-thon and I've always participated in The Booktube-A-Thon to some varying degree. This year is no different, except they've changed the name. It's now called The Reading Rush (and the title is growing on me.) This year there's a website and badges that you can unlock. I'm loving these updates!

It's a week long, running July 22nd - 28th. There are seven challenges which I have below and a bonus challenge to read seven books. I know I'm not going to get through seven books, but I will enjoy trying! Because I can never make a decision on books, I've got several options for each challenge.

This is my Reading Rush for 2019!
There are so many possibilities and it's likely that I'll only get through one book of these, but I'm hoping to get through at least the graphic novels. Who knows if any of these books will actually stick. We shall find out what I actually read. Happy reading all!

July is upon us, well we're actually quite into July now and so it is time for my July book and movie picks!

The Picks:
Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet - Read a book that features the Internet/technology
Book Scavenger by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman - This book features an Internet book scavenger hunt of sorts and I'm all for it! My friend, Maggie, recommended it to me and I trust her recommendations completely. I'm pretty sure I will love this book.

Finding Nemo - Read a book nominated for an award
The Clockmaker's Daughter by Kate Morton - This book was nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award the year it was written. It didn't win, but that's okay, I've heard many good things about the author. It's set in present time and the past, and I'm a sucker for stories that are told that way.

Book Club:
The Clockmaker's Daughter by Kate Morton - Surprise! This is my book club pick too. I'm reading one book for two prompts this month and I love it!

I'm also participating in The Reading Rush read-a-thon, so I'll be posting that TBR later this month. Let me know what books you plan on reading this month. Happy reading!Alex Brennanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18409584614712337859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-608375057255171876.post-73850612552603278512019-06-01T01:00:00.000-04:002019-06-11T23:16:07.733-04:00June 2019 TBR

Restart! Welcome to the restart of my own reading challenge, Disney-a-thon. I tried kicking this off in April, but then I got a new job and have been working way more, and reading way less. I've decided to start again, since I didn't read any of the challenges in April. In fact, I only read one book all month and May isn't looking to great either. So I'm going to go with two books, one from each collection.

The Picks:
Home on the Range - Read a book that takes place on a ranch or features a cowboy
Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman - A young woman goes west to seek vengeance for her father's death. I've been interested in this one for a while, but I'm kind of hesitant. I DNF'd the last book I tried to read by Erin Bowman. I am willing to give this one a shot though because it sounds so good!

Gunslinger Girl by Lyndsay Ely -A young woman with perfect aim and a knack at getting into trouble searches for her place in the wild wild west. I've had my eye on this book for a while and now seems like the perfect western book to fill this prompt.

I'm not sure which one of these books I'm going to read yet, but either way I'm ready to read about a ass-kicking female cowgirl!

Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure - Read a book featuring a nature word in the title
When the Sky Fell on Splendor by Emily Henry - This book caught my eye immediately; it's got a Stranger Things vibe going on and I am totally here for it. I can't wait to check it out! (Also, the word is Sky, definitely a part of nature, in the broad sense of the word.)
Book Club:
This month I got to choose books! Apparently, I was really feeling a sci-fi three of four options were that genre. So as you can imagine a sci-fi book was chosen.

Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy - This is a gender-bent retelling of King Arthur in space! I mean, who wouldn't want to read this book! Needless to say, I'm so so excited to read this book.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get through these three books this month! I'll keep you updated.
Okay, I'm going to try and keep it to one or two for each year because you all know I can't just choose one for each year! There are quite a few repeat authors and some repeat series, but I will not apologize for that because I like what I like. Also, I'm using years 2009-2018 since we're not even half way through 2019 yet.
The Top Ten Tuesday has a new home. It's hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

In no particular order:

1. Cover Color - They say never judge a book by its cover, and I believe that but not for books. I love a beautiful cover and to be honest I'm more like to pick up a cover that's attractive to me. I love greens and blues and yellows.

2. One or Two Word Titles - One and Two word titles tend to pack a punch, makes me want to find out more about the book. I'm more likely to read the synopsis of these

3. Author - If it's an author I really enjoy, It's not out of the ordinary for me to pick up their other books without even knowing what they're about.

3. Typography - There is nothing more eye-catching to me than typography or hand lettering. I love this kind of artwork. If a book has it on the cover, I will almost always pick it up to find out more.

4. Booktube Hype - I have a select few booktubers that I watch regularly. I feel like our book likes are very similar, so when they really enjoy a book, it makes me want to pick up that book.

5. Friend Recommendation - While I do enjoy booktube recommendations, a friend's recommendation carries much more weight for me. When they're excited about a book, it makes me want to try it even if it's something I wouldn't necessarily pick for myself.Alex Brennanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18409584614712337859noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-608375057255171876.post-9643861337822906392019-04-01T01:00:00.000-04:002019-04-01T01:00:02.801-04:00April 2019 TBR

Welcome to the first ever Disney-a-thon monthly book picking. I've decided to go with three picks this month and see how that goes. If I don't get everything read, I'll know to adjust it for next month.

The Picks
Fantasia 2000 - Read someone else's favorite book
Epic by Conor Kostick - Fantasia 2000 was my younger brother's favorite movie when he was a kid. We watched it pretty regularly for years. So in honor of that, I'm going to read his favorite book. He found this one year in high school when he was systematically going through the sci-fi/fantasy section of our library.

One Hundred and One Dalmatians - Read a book with lots of chapters
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas - This book has 66 chapters and that's "lots" of chapters in my book. I started this book in March and hopefully I'll complete it this month.

The Incredibles - Read a book featuring a character with a secret identity
Renegades by Marissa Meyer - Okay, I'm fairly certain this book has some secret identities seeing as it's about a couple factions of people with powers. I could be wrong but I'm really hoping to count this book!

I also participate in a book club every month so I'm going to throw our book in these TBRs too, because I can! Each month a different club member chooses what's supposed to be 3 books. (it's usually at least 4, but this month there were 5 options!) We vote from the options to see what book we'll actually read. That way, each person is guaranteed to read a book they're interested at least twice a year.

This month Jillian chose books; we unanimously selected The Bookshop of Yesterdays by Amy Meyerson - A bookshop with a family mystery mixed in the middle. I'm quite interested in reading this book, I can't wait to dig into it.

Welcome to my brainchild, I have created a monster! It's beautiful Disney/book mash-up and I'm fully in love with the idea. I spent the better part of my free time this past week working on this new project. I took all the full-length animated theatrical releases Disney has to offer and separated them into different reading tracks. The main one is a list of the main Disney movies not including Pixar.

In an effort to keep the main list smaller (lol), I created side tracks that come under the Disney umbrella ranging from Pixar and TV spin-offs to specific series with multiple movies. Each of these movies on the lists were then assigned a reading prompt. Guys, there are so many movies, it was sometimes a bit difficult to come up with a prompt that fit the movie well. I've done my best and I'm really quite proud of what I've produced.

So here's the idea: This will be my long standing challenge, I will choose 1-3 movies each month at random. I will read a book that corresponds to the prompts and then I will watch the movies. It's fun because I'm challenging myself reading-wise and I get to watch Disney movies in the process! There are some movies on this list I haven't seen in a very long time and I'm just as excited to revisit them as I am to read all these books.

I will (hopefully) be posting a monthly TBRs with the chosen prompts/movies and then do a monthly recap on both movies and books. I think this will be a fun way to go through this project. It's an as-long-as-it-takes Disney read-a-thon!

Below is this full list of prompts and anyone who'd like to is welcome to join me!
The Top Ten Tuesday has a new home. It's hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

1. Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller - I've just finished a book about vikings and I'm itching to read another viking book, this one seems on a similar thread. I really liked Levenseller's previous books and so I'm hopeful that this book will satisfy my viking desires.

2. We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal - This book sounds amazing. I've been looking at it for a while now, but I haven't officially added it to my TBR until recently. It's inspired by ancient Arabia and follows a hunter and an assassin who are each legends, but don't want to be.

3. Rayne and Delilah's Midnight Matinee by Jeff Zentner - Two best friends host a TV show on their local cable channel and in their senior they have to make decisions about their future of their show, their lives, and their friendship. It sounds like the perfect contemporary read and I'm excited to read it when it comes out.
4. Carnival at Bray by Jessie Ann Foley - I'm missing Ireland a lot recently, and this book just spoke to me. It takes place in 1993, a Chicago teen is uprooted to a small town in Ireland. Tragedy strikes and a pilgrimage to Dublin might be the trick to processing the grief. Running around Ireland sounds like a book I'm ready to read.

5. Now a Major Motion Picture by Cori McCarthy - Set in Ireland again, this time on the movie set of a widely famous fantasy trilogy written by the main character's grandmother. I'm particularly excited to read this book.

6. Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan - It's about a girl who has a job as the hot dog girl in her local princess park. She's got plans to win a boy's heart and save the park all while dancing around as a hot dog. I mean that sounds so cute and I'm here for it.
7. #Prettyboy Must Die by Kimberly Reid - I'm getting some serious Digby vibes from this book and I LOVED Trouble Is A Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly, so I'm pretty interested in checking this book out.

8. The Tyrant's Tomb by Rick Riordan - The latest book in the Apollo series and I'll be really excited to read more about Apollo's mortal teenage self when it comes out later this year.
9. The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin - I've read several of her books and really enjoyed them. This one seemed to have slipped under the radar, but I've found it now and I'm keen on reading it. I mean there's a bookshop involved!

10. The Darkest Legacy by Alexandra Bracken - I binge-read the The Darkest Minds Trilogy last year just in time to learn about this book. I can't say that I'm sorry there's another one. I mean, Alexandra Bracken has a way with storytelling, I'm completely obsessed. I'm so excited that there's more for me to read.
