Top Ten Tuesday: Auto-buy Authors

When I was thinking about the authors that were to go on this list, I immediately thought of a few.  It took me a while to come up with a full 10 authors though.  I wanted to make sure these were actually people I would genuinely hear they were writing a new book and immediately think I have to have it!  That list is this list.

1. J.K. Rowling - I don't care what she write, or who she writes as, I will buy all of her books with the hope that behind the cover will be the eighth Harry Potter book.  I'm only sort of joking.

2. John Green - His books are heartfelt and make me think and feel deeply.  I love that he doesn't shy away from hard topics and his writing is great.  Plus, I really like him as a human being and want to support him in all his endeavors.

3. Marie Lu - I loved her Legend Trilogy and I've just finished The Young Elites and there is no mistaking that I love her writing.  I love the ideas that she puts down on paper and turns into truly engaging and incredible novels.

4. Marissa Meyer - I hope she is currently thinking to the future and planning her next big series because I am sure that after Winter, I will be craving more of her writing.  She's got me completely engaged in her books and so excited to find out what happens. (I'm pretty sure this is the most excited I've been since Harry Potter.  That's saying something.)

5. Noelle Stevenson - She is relatively new on my radar. (like in the last two months)  I've loved everything she has written/drawn.  It's smart and funny and just on the right side of ridiculous.  I will no doubt pick up graphic novels and comics by her in the future.

6. Rainbow Rowell - I have yet to read all her current works but if Fangirl and Eleanor & Park are any indication of what she is capable of she's already received a spot on this list. I mean, I read Fangirl and immediately bought Eleanor & Park.  I read that and immediately bought Landlines.  Do you see the pattern forming?  Soon I'll have to wait for her next books.

7. Markus Zusak - There aren't words to describe how much I love his writing and his storytelling.  He is definitely one of those authors that I wouldn't even bother to read what the book was about.  I'd just buy it and dive in.

8. Stephanie Perkins - Her books were just so fun to read.  I'd love to have more of her books in my life.  I did hear that her next book is going to be a horror story and I'm definitely intrigued by it.

9. Rick Riordan - I've read all but his Kane Chronicles and I'm thinking it's time to dive into those too.  I loved the story he weaved through both Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus.  I enjoyed reading them so much.

10. Michael Buckley - He's on this list because I thoroughly enjoyed the Sisters Grimm books.  The other day I was in a book store; I saw his name on a new book and got really excited.  If that is not an indication that he should be on this list, I don't know what is.

Bout of Books 14: Fictional World Travel Challenge!

Bout of Books first challenge is presented by Between Library Shelves.  She has asked us to share up to six books set in foreign countries. I currently live in the U.S. so the books I have take place outside the U.S.  Each of these books take place in either current day, historical, or futuristic countries.  Without further ado, here are my choices.

Bout of Books 14 read-a-thon

I love myself a good read-a-thon and this year I've found some good ones.  I've heard about Bout of Books for a couple of years and now I think it's time I just dive into it.  There's no better way to read than with a bunch of people who are also reading. :D

The official details: 

Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal.  It  is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 17th and runs through Sunday, August 23rd in whatever time zone you are in.  Bout of Books is low-pressure.  There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional.  For all Bout of Books 14 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.  -- From the Bout of Books team 

So I've decided that this week will act as a guide for me to get through part of my August TBR and my book club book.  I will be reading [read: try to read] some of these books. 

What a beautiful last minute find!  I'm glad I stumbled across this madness in time.  Happy reading all and I'll see you on the other side. 

Fandom Mashup (#1)

Micheline has come up with a great idea and I can't pass up the opportunity to participate.  Each week Micheline will pose a unique fiction scenario and I will choose 5 characters from 5 different fandoms to help me with the situation.  It's going to be quite fun, I can already tell!

Scenario:
You've decided to set off on an adventure across the world.  Who are your travel companions?

After some careful consideration, I've decided that my team of adventurers will be as follows:

Samwise Gamgee - Sam is fiercely loyal friend that will rally us when we get short of perseverance.  We all know that this will happen at some point on our journey across the world.  Plus, he can cook so we'll never grow hungry. Potato!

Hermione Granger - She knows how to keep us all safe in the event that our adventure leads us into danger.  She can use all the protection charms she used while she was traveling with Harry and Ron.

Martha Jones - She walked the Earth for goodness sake and saved the world.  She's going to be the greatest companion on an worldwide adventure. My guess is she's great at reading maps, and we will need a map captain!

Thomas (The Maze Runner)- He's one determined guy.  He'll help us figure out what not quite right about our situations and teams up well with others to fight our way out.  Plus, he's a fast runner so we could use him from time to time to send messages ahead. 

Melissa McCall - We need a medic and Melissa seems to be one of the best.  She takes care of all that is supernatural on top of her already interesting job at the hospital.  I definitely want her on my team. Plus, she's most likely to be the mom of the group.  She'll settle any arguments we might have and comfort us in a motherly fashion.
